Hearing Stella list out all her grievances, Jarrod’s first reaction was a bizarre surge of joy.
Stella had never cared enough to argue about these things before. Whenever something involved him, she always maintained a polite, submissive smile, acting as if nothing he did could affect her.
He hadn’t expected her to keep track of all those details and finally voice them out loud.
But a second later, a wave of anxiety washed over him.
Stella already didn’t have deep feelings for him. If she had been harboring this much resentment, didn’t that mean his chances were even worse?
“Stella, you’ve misunderstood a lot of things!”
Jarrod sat down next to the bed and began seriously addressing her accusations.
First, during the two and a half years he was stationed abroad, his workload was crushing, and his schedule was incredibly tight. Before every trip back to the country, he had to work consecutive all-nighters just to squeeze out a few free days.
“I came back because I missed you, not just to ‘find my release’ like you said.”
Jarrod’s voice softened. “I admit I lacked gentleness sometimes, but you were so soft and intoxicating, I completely lost control. I just wanted to—”
“Enough, we can skip that part,” Stella interrupted, her face flushing.
Jarrod’s gaze lingered on her reddening ears, his Adam’s apple bobbing. He explained that he didn’t introduce her to his friends for two reasons: she always kept an emotional distance from him, so he wasn’t sure if she wanted to be involved in his circle, and he simply didn’t have enough time.
“Every time I came back, it felt like time flew by too fast. I desperately wanted to take you abroad with me, but you never brought it up, and I didn’t know how to ask.”
Jarrod sighed. “So, I pushed myself to the absolute limit and managed to wrap up the overseas project six months ahead of schedule.”
Stella stared at him, genuinely shocked.
Was Jarrod saying he returned six months early just for her?
“You didn’t come back because Chloe returned?” Stella asked.
