Just like that, he fed her the entire bowl of porridge. The warm food settled in her empty stomach, bringing a comforting sense of fullness.
“Want another bowl?” Jarrod asked.
Stella shook her head. “I’m full.”
“Then lie down and rest for a bit,” Jarrod said.
He picked up the empty container and turned toward the door.
Stella was confused. “Where are you going at a time like this?”
Without looking back, he replied, “I’m returning the container to the restaurant. Get some rest. I’ll be right back.”
Stella was baffled.
It was just a food container. Did he really need to go out of his way to return it right now?
Even if it were made of solid gold, it wouldn’t be that urgent.
“Jarrod, what’s wrong? Did something happen?” Stella asked, her brow furrowing.
Jarrod’s back went rigid. He didn’t move or make a sound.
Stella’s confusion deepened. “Jarrod, what exactly—”
“I’m not letting go!”
He suddenly whipped his head around, his voice low and intense.
