Stella had no intention of arguing with Jarrod. Forcing her emotions down, she asked, “So you followed me out here just to pick a fight?”
Jarrod hadn’t actually wanted to fight. He had originally planned to sit through the entire movie with Chloe, but he couldn’t absorb a single frame.
The suffocating agitation in his chest had pushed him over the edge. Ignoring Chloe’s protests, he had stepped over the seats, marched down the aisle, and headed straight downstairs.
Seeing Stella standing outside, smiling and chatting with Sebastian, had completely shattered whatever control he had left.
“Get in the car.”
Right on cue, his driver pulled up to the curb. Jarrod issued the command with an icy expression.
Stella didn’t refuse and slid into the back seat beside him.
For a while, the drive was engulfed in heavy silence.
Eventually, Jarrod spoke up. “Jasper is on winter break. He wanted me to ask if you have time to go out with him for some food and shopping.”
Stella: “…”
She highly doubted the truth of that statement. Jasper had her number. If he really wanted to get dinner, he would have texted her directly. There was absolutely no need to relay the message through Jarrod.
Reading her skepticism, Jarrod added coldly, “He knows about the divorce. He assumed we already signed the papers and didn’t want to make things awkward for you.”
Stella paused. Jasper had always been sweet to her, and she genuinely adored her lively young brother-in-law. It was just a meal; she had no reason to turn him down.
“Tell him to let me know when he wants to go. He can just text me directly.”
Hearing her straightforward answer, Jarrod’s rigid jawline relaxed slightly, and the suffocating tension radiating from him dissipated a bit.
Looking at her side profile, he said casually, “Chloe said she was willing to move back to St. Claire but wanted me to take her to dinner and a movie first. I want her out of Royal Oaks, so I agreed.”
