Stella knew Logan only asked that question out of guilt.
She forced a small smile and shook her head. “It wasn’t too bad. Everyone in the Fuller family gave me the respect I deserved and didn’t go out of their way to make things difficult.”
Even Serena had come around.
“Jarrod spent the first two and a half years of our marriage working abroad, but he still visited me whenever he came back and sent gifts on holidays. I originally thought our marriage was just a transaction, but I realized it wasn’t.”
Stella spoke the truth. “Jarrod loved me, protected me, and cared about my life. He helped me so much and solved a lot of my problems. As we spent time together, I truly wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.”
When Stella mentioned Jarrod, her eyes shone with a soft light full of trust and reliance. It was obvious she had truly fallen for him.
Logan had met Jarrod a few times. The man was a man of few words, but his affection and care for Stella were evident in all the little details.
Logan desperately didn’t want to let Stella go, but he knew he couldn’t give her a better life than Jarrod could right now.
Setting aside the immense wealth, neither the Quinn nor the Lennox families would approve of them being together.
Besides, he had hurt Stella so much during his amnesia. It would be incredibly selfish of him to demand she forget all that pain and accept him just because he got his memory back.
It was too selfish.
Logan slowly pushed himself up from the floor. He hunched his shoulders, forcing a smile that looked more agonizing than a breakdown.
“Stella, I understand… Since you’ve made your decision and have a better life now, I’m… I’m relieved.”
Without daring to linger a second longer, Logan turned and walked away. He was terrified that if he stayed, he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from pulling her into his arms and begging her not to abandon him.
He stumbled as he walked, looking completely drained of life, as if a strong gust of wind could knock him over.
The moment the door clicked shut, Stella pressed a hand over her heart as tears streamed down her face.
