Summer slowly shook her head, her voice strained and hoarse. “I’m fine.”
Then, she looked up at Lucca’s furious face and suddenly smiled. Her smile was so wide that the corners of her eyes reddened.
“Lucca, I don’t need you to fix any problems for me. We are already broken up. Whoever you’re with, whether you have a child or not, it has nothing to do with me anymore.”
“I came here to deal with the police report you filed. Stella only hit you because of me. If you want to press charges, have your lawyer contact me.”
Summer turned to Stella, her voice laced with exhaustion. “Stella, let’s go.”
“Okay.”
Stella supported Summer as they walked out of the room, completely ignoring Lucca, whose face had twisted into a horrific scowl.
Watching Lucca stare blankly at the doorway, Aria wept pitifully. “Lucca, I’m so sorry. This is all my fault. Go after her. I know how much you love her. What she just said was only out of anger. Hurry and explain things to her…”
The image of Summer’s reddened eyes flashed relentlessly through Lucca’s mind. The absolute detachment in her voice when she declared they were “already broken up” filled him with a sudden, suffocating panic.
Ignoring whatever Aria was blabbering about, Lucca bolted out of the room and chased after them.
By then, Stella and Summer had already stepped into the elevator. It was as if all of Summer’s strength had been drained; she rested her head on Stella’s shoulder, a single tear slipping down her cheek.
Not knowing how to comfort her, Stella just patted her back gently.
Seeing this, Jasper huffed in frustration. “Stella, you should have just let me go in there and beat the crap out of that scumbag again!”
“Just don’t add to the mess right now. Hand me a tissue.”
