Jarrod looked at her, mildly perplexed. Was this really what she was crying over?
Stella sat before him, her radiant complexion pale, her beautiful eyes shimmering with barely concealed desperation. Her knuckles were white as she gripped her chopsticks, betraying the anxiety she was trying so hard to hide.
Jarrod’s expression remained impenetrable. “Why exactly do you want to go so badly?”
Stella obviously couldn’t tell him she was flying out to give Logan an amulet. “I just… I want to broaden my horizons. Network with people in the industry.”
Jarrod didn’t say a word. He simply stared at her, his predatory gaze seeming to pierce right through her flimsy excuse, dissecting every secret she was trying to hide.
Stella’s heart hammered against her ribs under his intense scrutiny. Just as she was about to stammer out another excuse, his cool voice cut through the silence.
“You’re not a direct employee of the Fuller Group headquarters. Adding you to my entourage is inappropriate.”
Stella’s heart plummeted. She opened her mouth for one last desperate plea, but Jarrod continued.
“I’ll call Miles Stanton later and see if he can squeeze you onto the Mythos roster.”
If Jarrod made the call, Miles would never dare refuse.
A fierce spark of hope ignited in Stella’s chest. “Thank you so much, Mr. Fuller.”

The very next morning, the moment Stella walked into the office, she received the official notice: she was joining the delegation to St. Jude’s Island.
Pure joy flooded her system.
She immediately texted Jarrod.

She was in such a good mood that when she bumped into Chloe in the restroom, she even offered a polite, “Good morning, Director Huxley.”
Chloe’s face twisted into a vicious sneer. “Looks like Serena was right about you. You play the innocent victim perfectly, but underneath it all, you’re a scheming bitch.”
