Before long, the driver pulled up to Stella’s apartment building.
Jarrod stepped out first, opening her door and offering his hand as she exited.
“I’m a bit parched. Let me head up to your place for a glass of water,” Jarrod suggested smoothly.
Stella wasn’t falling for an excuse that transparent. If she let him through the door, there was a ninety percent chance she’d never get him to leave.
So, Stella batted his hand away. “It’s late, and I need to sleep. You should head back and get some rest too.”
Jarrod refused to give up entirely. “Then let me walk you up. Once I see you safely inside, I’ll come right back down.”
Stella still firmly declined. “No need. I can take the elevator up by myself.”
Staring at Stella’s unyielding expression, Jarrod had half a mind to scoop her into his arms and carry her straight to her bedroom. However, he had promised to respect her boundaries. Pushing his luck now might completely ruin the fragile progress they had fought so hard to rebuild.
Ultimately, Jarrod backed off. But just before Stella turned to walk inside, he leaned in fast and stole a quick kiss on her lips.
Before Stella could even react, Jarrod spun on his heel and slid right back into the car.

After Jarrod dragged Stella away that morning, Logan had sat alone in the coffee shop for hours.
During the day, he hadn’t gone back to The Vance Family’s company, nor had he sought out Skylar. Relying solely on the fractured memories he was fighting to piece together, he had made his way to The Hearth Dessert Cafe.
The owner still remembered him, casually mentioning that Stella had also stopped by recently.
Logan had sat there all morning, then spent the entire afternoon standing outside the Quinn family villa.
Standing there, focusing on all the stories Stella had told him, a massive surge of memories had actually begun flooding his mind.
But the more he remembered, the more agonizing the physical pain in his chest became.
