He must have been waiting out there specifically for her. Jarrod stood by the lobby entrance, holding some takeout boxes in one hand, his Bluetooth earpiece blinking faintly as he spoke to someone on the phone.
Noticing her arrival, Jarrod offered a brief goodbye to the person on the line, ended the call, and walked straight toward Stella.
Completely ignoring Sebastian, who had also stepped out of the car, Jarrod spoke naturally to Stella. “I had to run back to the office for a quick meeting. I figured you’d be done with dinner by now, so I came over to wait for you.”
Stella was surprised yet again.
She had gone out with Sebastian, and Jarrod hadn’t forcibly stopped her. Now that she was being dropped off by him, Jarrod remained incredibly calm.
In the past, Jarrod would have thrown a dark-faced fit. He certainly wouldn’t be standing there casually explaining why he had shown up.
“I haven’t eaten yet. Mind if I come up to your place to eat?” Jarrod asked, lifting the takeout boxes slightly.
Stella, “…”
Sebastian could obviously see Jarrod actively courting Stella.
Recalling that Stella mentioned she was considering putting the divorce on hold, Sebastian desperately wanted to tell Jarrod to get lost.
But he knew he didn’t have the right. If he actually did that, Stella would only distance herself from him even further.
So, Sebastian kept his tone pleasant. “Stella, I’ll be heading off then. See you at the office tomorrow.”
Stella offered him a gentle smile. “Alright. Thanks for the ride.”
“Anytime,” Sebastian replied, shooting a quick glance at Jarrod, whose eyes predictably flashed with a cold, predatory warning.
Ignoring Jarrod’s displeasure, Sebastian got back into his car.
He didn’t drive off immediately, choosing instead to watch Stella and Jarrod walk into the lobby together.
A little while later, his three-person group chat buzzed with a message from Jarrod.
[I want you to remember she is my wife. You’d better stop coveting her. And change the background photo of your chat with her. Delete all her pictures.]
