Jarrod immediately clocked her intentions. He drawled lazily, “That’s way too narrow. I won’t fit.”
“I know. That’s why you’re taking the bed, and I’m sleeping here,” she replied.
His lips pressed into a thin line. “The bed is huge. We can each take a blanket. It’s not like I’m going to jump you.”
Stella didn’t believe that for a second, but she was too drained to argue.
A few minutes later, the medical supplies arrived.
She directed Jarrod to a chair and carefully unraveled his bandages.
The outer gauze was indeed slightly damp, and the skin underneath had turned a pale, irritated shade. Without thinking, she leaned in and gently blew on the wound.
Jarrod stiffened instantly, his dark gaze dropping heavily to her face.
The sudden tension reminded Stella of his intense reactions that night at The Sterling Residences. She sped up her movements, desperate to kill the sudden, suffocating intimacy between them.
Once finished, she darted to the sink to wash her hands.
When she emerged, she bumped right into Jarrod at the bathroom door. He had already stripped off his dress shirt and was standing there bare-chested.
His towering physique alone was intimidating, but seeing the raw, muscular expanse of his chest sent a wave of pure masculine dominance washing over her.
“What are you doing?” Stella demanded, furrowing her brows.
Her tone was sharp, but the rosy flush creeping up her ears betrayed her composure.
“Taking a shower,” Jarrod said smoothly. “It’s nothing you haven’t seen before, Mrs. Fuller. Why the blush?”
