The manager took his leave, and the waiter carefully wiped away the spilled tea.
Skylar focused on gently applying the cooling ointment to Logan’s arm.
Logan teased her every so often, complaining playfully about the pain just to earn an exasperated glare from her.
Reading the room, Stella knew it was time for her to exit. “Ms. Vance, Mr. Lennox, I have some urgent matters to attend to, so I’ll be going now.”
Skylar looked up. “I’m sorry about earlier, Stella. I lost control of my emotions for a second. Please don’t take anything I said to heart.”
Stella offered a polite smile. “I won’t.”
“As for the rest of that order, just contact the factory manager directly. They’ll coordinate everything with you,” Skylar added.
Stella nodded. “Understood. Thank you.”
Logan didn’t even glance in her direction as she walked out the door.
Once they were alone, Skylar stared at him intently. “Logan, do you still care about Stella?”
Before he could answer, she rushed on. “I’m not trying to pick a fight, I’m just incredibly worried.”
Tears instantly welled in her eyes again. “You two grew up together, went to the same university. Even though I never heard about you dating, your bond was obviously deep. When you told me it was love at first sight with me, it just doesn’t feel real sometimes.”
Logan couldn’t explain what had come over him either. When he walked into the private dining room and saw the bright smile on Stella’s face, he found his gaze lingering on her against his will.
And the moment that scalding tea tipped toward her, his mind had gone completely blank. His body had moved purely on instinct.
Seeing the fresh tears brimming in Skylar’s eyes, a wave of guilt washed over him. He lowered his voice, speaking with gentle devotion. “Skylar, don’t overthink this. I don’t care about her.”
“When I went to the hospital last time, it was just a courtesy visit for her grandmother. And today, I wasn’t specifically trying to save her.”
He brushed a strand of hair from Skylar’s face. “Like you said, she and I used to be as close as siblings, and her family helped mine a great deal. As long as she doesn’t pester me or cross any lines, I’ll treat her like a younger sister from the neighborhood. Nothing more.”
“Okay.” Skylar leaned into his chest, her arms wrapping tightly around his waist. “You have to remember, you love me. You’re not allowed to love anyone else.”
“Of course,” Logan murmured, hugging her back and pressing a tender kiss to her lips.
