Jarrod firmly held her hand, leading her out of the shop.
Walking in high heels required extra care, but with Jarrod’s support, Stella felt much more at ease.
The driver was already waiting outside. Stella got into the car first, and Jarrod helped adjust the hem of her dress before sliding in beside her.
“Thank you,” Stella said softly.
Jarrod’s gaze landed on her luminous calves, but he remained silent.
Stella instinctively pulled her legs back. “Where is the birthday banquet today?”
He retracted his gaze, replying casually, “A private estate owned by the Jensons.”
The Jensons?
“Your friend Julian Jenson’s family?”
Jarrod nodded. “It’s his dad’s birthday today. He invited quite a few people.”
That made sense.
Stella immediately felt less tense. She had met Julian twice, so he wasn’t a total stranger.
However, she remembered seeing Julian acting quite friendly with Chloe at The Amber Lounge. Would Chloe be there today?
Stella hadn’t crossed paths with Chloe since Jarrod pulled her out of the Mythos Online conference room.
If they ran into each other, would Chloe lash out at her?
“Chloe hasn’t been discharged yet,” Jarrod said, seemingly reading her mind. “Even if she were there, you wouldn’t need to worry. She won’t do anything to you.”
Historically, aside from looking down on her, Chloe had never actually done anything malicious.
