Jarrod wasn’t stupid. He knew Silas had ulterior motives for hiding Arthur Sr. There was no way he would have boarded a vessel without heavy contingencies in place. He had to have another plan.
A knock on the office door pulled her from her thoughts. Sebastian walked in.
He had clearly seen the news. His eyes searched her face for any signs of a breakdown. When he saw she was maintaining her composure, he told her that Julian had already booked a flight and was personally leading a search and rescue team to the coordinates.
“You should go with him,” Stella told him plainly. “I’ve got things handled here.”
She knew that despite the explosive fallout between Sebastian and Jarrod, they had been brothers for years. There was no way Sebastian could just sit back and watch.
Sebastian hesitated for a long moment before shaking his head. He had no intention of joining the search. The Quinn Group was still in the middle of a brutal siege, and he refused to leave Stella to face it alone.
Stella was caught off guard by his decision to stay. A wave of profound gratitude hit her, followed closely by a deep sense of dread. She was terrified she could never give him the romantic reciprocation he ultimately wanted.
“Sebastian, thank you for putting me first. But you don’t have to do this. If The Quinn Group goes under, I’ll let it burn. I’ve done everything I can; losing it won’t kill me. I just don’t want you to do something you’ll regret.”
Sebastian looked at her with unwavering intensity. “Stella, I’d only regret it if I left. This is my choice. You don’t need to carry any guilt over it.”
