Listening to Yvette’s blatant display of affection and concern, Stella frowned slightly but stayed silent, waiting for her to get to the point.
Predictably, Yvette continued, “Stella, I heard things at your home are chaotic right now, and The Quinn Group is facing a lot of issues. Under normal circumstances, I would fully support Jarrod helping you out. But right now, he has to focus all his energy on dealing with Silas. He can’t afford to be distracted, and he shouldn’t be dealing with unnecessary emotional stress.”
The message was loud and clear: *Don’t go running to Jarrod for help with your company.*
Just minutes ago, Yvette was swearing she’d convince Jarrod to win Stella back. Now, she was marking her territory and playing the protective partner.
Stella gave a cold smile. “Don’t worry, Yvette. I know my boundaries. Jarrod and I have absolutely no relationship anymore. Even if I run into a wall, I won’t be using our past connection to beg him for favors.”
Acting as if she didn’t hear the razor-sharp sarcasm in Stella’s voice, Yvette smiled softly. “I know you’re a reasonable girl, Stella. It’s not that I don’t trust you. It’s just that Jarrod is so exhausted right now, and I just want to ensure he has some peace.”
Stella had lost all patience for the charade. She stood up, stating she had somewhere to be.
As if suddenly remembering something, Yvette added one last comment.
“Oh, right. Stella, could you please talk to Sebastian? Ask him to stop causing trouble for Jarrod. The last time he attacked him, he nearly broke Jarrod’s ribs.”
Stella froze mid-stand. She frowned, her voice icy. “Whatever Sebastian does is his own business. I don’t control him. If you’re so heartbroken over Jarrod getting hit, you should go talk to Sebastian yourself. I can’t help you.”
A flash of awkwardness crossed Yvette’s face. “Sebastian only attacked Jarrod to defend your honor, so I thought you could talk some sense into him… but if it puts you in a difficult position, just pretend I didn’t say anything.”
