Stella thought for a moment. “I wouldn’t say I hate him. If everything he said was the truth, then it simply means I was never his priority. I just wasn’t that important to him.”
“If?”
Sebastian immediately caught the hesitation in her words. “Are you saying you think Jarrod might have an ulterior motive?”
Stella looked at him. “You’ve known Jarrod far longer than I have. You must understand him better. Do you think there’s another reason he’s doing this?”
“When I saw the news yesterday, I was just as shocked. I confronted him, and he told me with a completely blank face that he had no other choice. When I lost my temper and threw a few punches, he didn’t even try to fight back.”
Sebastian paused before adding, “Stella, even though I don’t want you to be with him, if you truly can’t let him go, I’ll go with you to demand the real truth.”
Stella let out a self-deprecating chuckle. “There’s no point. He made his choice, and I’ll accept it. Whether he has ulterior motives or not, it has nothing to do with me anymore.”
Watching the resolve settle over her features, Sebastian felt a sharp pang in his chest. “Stella, please,” he pleaded softly, “don’t carry everything on your own. If you need anything, tell me. I’ll always be by your side.”
