When Julian first walked in, he was drowning in guilt, but after going a few rounds with Jarrod, he felt incredibly vindicated.
Jarrod was so suffocated by his own pride and emotional constipation that he honestly needed a massive shock to the system to finally wake up.
Right on cue, Chloe’s custom ringtone started blaring again.
Julian seized the exit. “Alright, man. I need to go pass out. I’m out of here!”
He paused at the door, tossing one last grenade. “Just a final piece of advice: if your ego is more important than your wife, then you deserve to lose her!”
Before Jarrod could even open his mouth, Julian bolted down the hallway like his hair was on fire.
With the phone still vibrating aggressively, Jarrod snatched it up, his voice practically a growl. “What do you want?”
Chloe flinched on the other end, bursting into performative tears. “Jarrod! I made a tiny mistake, and I’m terrified to tell my brother. Can you please help me fix it?”
Jarrod’s patience was completely nonexistent. “What did you do now?”
“These people really pissed me off, so I hired some guys to teach them a lesson. Nobody got hurt! They just smashed up some equipment, that’s all!”
Chloe sobbed. “I’ll pay for everything! Can you just send a good lawyer to make it go away?”
Jarrod knew exactly how toxic and spoiled Chloe was. She threw these psychotic tantrums constantly. His mind was still spinning from Julian’s brutal lecture, so he didn’t bother asking for the details of who she had victimized this time.
“Call Arthur,” Jarrod snapped. “He’ll send a fixer.”
“And stop throwing these psychotic tantrums. Do not call me about this again!”
He hung up violently, his face a mask of thunder.
He opened his settings and permanently deleted Chloe’s custom ringtone.
He didn’t actually believe Stella cared, but since Julian wouldn’t shut up about it, he killed it anyway.
